UWC FEES WILL FALL MOVEMENT RESPONSE TO 0% 2016 INCREMENT

UWC FEES WILL FALL MOVEMENT RESPONSE TO 0% 2016 INCREMENT
UWC FEES WILL FALL MOVEMENT rejects the state president’s placative 0% 2016 increment. We stand in solidarity with other tertiary institutions in the national SHUT DOWN until the state adheres to our demand for Free Education to take effect from 2016.
On 23 October 2015, UWC & CPUT FEES WILL FALL MOVEMENT occupied Robert Sobukwe road and barricaded the national key point of the state, the Cape Town International Airport, as it was clear that the government takes our demands very lightly. The state responded with extreme police brutality and arrested numerous students. We are extremely disappointed in the brutal response of the state police, which was more of a military operation against innocent students in our ‘democracy’.
On 24 October 2015 we gathered at UWC student centre and deliberated on the state president’s response. We concluded that the state president’s response does not speak to our demands of Free Education. If we give in now, we would’ve failed our generation and future generations; we would’ve failed workers who receive derisory wages from outsourced companies on our campuses. We strongly reject the president’s resolution on this matter. Our demand for Free Education remains unshakeable. Fees Must Fall.
